What happens during an asbestos material assessment
- Scope review. We confirm the property, proposed work, areas of concern, and materials to be assessed.
- Site inspection. The inspector reviews the agreed areas and identifies suspect materials that may need separate samples.
- Bulk sampling. Representative samples are collected and documented. Different materials or layers may require separate analyses.
- Laboratory analysis. Samples are submitted for standard polarized light microscopy, or PLM, analysis.
- Reporting. You receive photographs, laboratory findings, and practical next-step guidance for the assessed scope.

Additional analyses: $70 each.
Laboratory turnaround: Standard laboratory results are typically available within two business days of inspections completed by 2 p.m. local time, subject to same-day UPS shipping access. Remote sites, lengthy projects, shipping, sample type, and laboratory capacity may extend timing. Qualifying next-business-day results require a $50 overnight shipping fee. Confirm laboratory and completed-report delivery when scheduling.
Final pricing may vary for extensive properties, specialized reporting, unusual project requirements, sample type, shipping conditions, inspection timing, laboratory capacity, or a scope requiring substantially more materials or areas.

What a targeted assessment can and cannot answer
A targeted material assessment covers only the agreed areas and materials. It is not automatically a comprehensive whole-building asbestos survey. Laboratory findings apply to the specific material and location sampled; similar-looking materials elsewhere can have different contents. When the scope or observed conditions warrant it, the inspector may recommend expanded sampling or a broader survey.

The $395 package includes up to four standard PLM bulk analyses. Additional analyses are $70 each.
Why might more than one sample be needed?
Different materials, finishes, layers, installation periods, or work areas may need to be evaluated separately. The inspector determines an appropriate sampling approach for the agreed project scope.
How quickly are results available?
Standard mold, lead, and asbestos laboratory results are typically available within two business days of inspection for appointments completed by 2 p.m. local time, provided samples can reach a UPS location before its shipping cutoff. Remote sites, lengthy projects, sample type, shipping disruptions, and laboratory capacity may extend that timing. Qualifying projects can request next-business-day laboratory results for a $50 overnight shipping fee; confirm availability when scheduling. Laboratory results and the completed assessment report are separate milestones; we will confirm report delivery for your project.
Can asbestos be identified by sight?
Visual inspection can identify suspect materials, but appearance alone does not establish laboratory content. Bulk sampling and analysis provide the evidence used in the report.
Is a targeted assessment a whole-building survey?
No. A targeted assessment is limited to the identified materials or work area. A broader project may require a more comprehensive scope and additional sampling.
Will the report declare the entire building asbestos-free?
No. The report documents the materials and locations actually assessed and sampled. It does not make claims about unobserved or unsampled areas.
