Building Investigation Services (“BIS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This SMS Privacy Policy and Messaging Terms document explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when we communicate with customers, prospective customers, applicants, and employees by text message/SMS/MMS using our business phone numbers.

1. Scope

This policy applies to SMS/MMS text communications between BIS and:

  • Individuals who text us or receive texts from us;

  • Applicants and employees who receive onboarding or work-related communications.

Our messaging program consists of general conversational messaging to answer questions, provide support, coordinate services, and communicate operational information.

We do not use SMS for promotional or marketing texting.

3. Information We May Collect

When you text us or we text you, we may collect and process:

  • Message content, including photos, attachments, or information you choose to send;

  • Message metadata, such as date, time, delivery status, and conversation logs;

  • Your name or other identifiers you provide;

  • Appointment, service, or scheduling details;

  • Limited onboarding or employment-related information when needed for work-related communications.

4. Consent and Message Frequency

If you initiate contact with us by text, you consent to receive text messages reasonably related to your inquiry and any necessary follow-ups.

If you provide your phone number for scheduling, service coordination, or customer support, you consent to receive Account Notification and Customer Care messages related to those purposes.

For employee onboarding or work-related communications, consent may be obtained during hiring or onboarding and is limited to work-related logistics and operational communications.

Message frequency will vary depending on communication needs, appointment activity, the nature of your inquiry, and onboarding or operational needs.

5. Data Sharing

Customer data is not shared with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes.

Mobile opt-in information and SMS consent are never shared with anyone for any purpose. Any information-sharing described elsewhere in this policy excludes mobile opt-in data and SMS consent data.

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not transfer your personal information to external organizations for promotional or marketing purposes.

We may use service providers to enable business texting and related communications. These providers may process SMS-related information on our behalf solely as needed to deliver messages, manage conversations, operate our texting systems, support business operations, comply with law, or protect legal rights, safety, and security.

We may disclose SMS-related information when necessary:

  • To deliver and manage text messages through our service providers;

  • To comply with law, legal process, subpoenas, or court orders;

  • To protect the rights, safety, and security of BIS, our customers, employees, and others;

  • In connection with a permitted business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets.

6. Opt-Out Instructions

You can cancel the SMS service at any time.

To stop receiving SMS messages, text STOP to the phone number from which you received messages. After you send STOP, we will send one additional SMS message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. After that confirmation, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us.

If you want to receive messages again, you may sign up or initiate communication again as you did the first time.

8. Carrier and Messaging Disclosures

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Message and data rates may apply for messages sent to you from us and to us from you.

If you have questions about your text or data plan, contact your wireless provider.

9. Data Retention

We retain SMS records, including message content and logs, for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide services and support;

  • Maintain business records;

  • Resolve disputes;

  • Comply with legal, regulatory, contractual, or operational requirements.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of communication and applicable obligations.

10. Security

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures designed to protect SMS-related personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Sensitive Information

Please do not send highly sensitive information by text message, including:

  • Social Security numbers;

  • Driver’s license numbers;

  • Bank account information;

  • Credit card numbers;

  • Medical information;

  • Other highly sensitive personal information.

Text messages may be visible on your phone screen and accessible to anyone with access to your device or messaging account.

12. Children’s Privacy

Our SMS communications are not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where required by law. We do not knowingly collect personal information via SMS from children.
